The Fab Hatter
Once a year the Everett Harold dedicates their business journal to local women entrepreneurs. Janis Posada a reporter for the Everett Herald approached us in January of 2022 and asked if we would be interested in being interviewed for this year’s edition. “YES!!”, I exclaimed out loud.
She asked to interview us in our storefront and interview us a second time in our warehouse. She wanted to showcase what it looks like to manufacture a handmade line.
Without hesitation, we began to get ready. Quietly painting, reorganizing, and remerchandising our warehouse.
It’s one thing to invite the public into our storefront. It’s quit another to invite the public into our warehouse. Our sacred space where we process, design, and create.
My Sister, Jill, and I began by making a list of improvements. Each week we checked off a task until our list was almost complete and it was time to be interviewed.
Janice took the time and asked us in-depth questions.
“How did you and Jill meet?”
“When did you experience your first desire to be creative or was it always there?”
“What’s it like working with your spouse?”
“What’s the next creative endeavor you are interested in perusing?”
We have a friend who once told us, “Jill is the riverbanks and I am the river.” Without Jill, I am just a flash flood.
I owe so much of my professional growth to Jill’s willingness to help me, build with me, and foster my emotional growth. Not to mention taking over our financial paper trail that seems to never end! When Jill and I met my “financial organization” consisted of a cardboard box with receipts stuffed inside. I was behind in taxes both and embarrassed I wasn’t better at accounting.
😕Jill took the box from me and made us accountable to the government and accountable to ourselves.
I am forever grateful I met you Jill and you took a chance on me. I love you.
