What it's like to work with your wife in small business

Every interaction you have on the road vending with the public is filled with unknowns.

People can be unpredictable. People drinking at big outdoor events can be crazy. People taking uppers and downers at music concerts can be wackos. We have so many stories 🤪

When Jill & I hit the vending scene together in 2016 we were a NEW COUPLE building a NEW BRANCH of FFV+H.

As a couple and co-workers we had a lot to learn about each other. There was a lot of grace that summer, we kept short accounts, we showed forgiveness, and practiced patience. We still have to remind each other of these tools because it’s practice not perfection.

As business partners, we worked on when to lead and when to follow. This requires trust in someones else's judgments, discipline in which role you were playing and putting aside your ego.

As teammates, we worked on physically moving in sync so no one got hurt. Most of the trailer work is 4 handed (two people) and required a lot of communicating the plan and then taking action.

As friends, we worked on validating each other's experiences. Often times we would have very different perspectives following an event because of how differently we process things.

Over the course of hundreds of hours, thousands of hours, we grew as individuals, we grew as a couple, and we grew our business.

Our time on the road was raw and it was rough but it was rich is life’s lessons.
