Hiring: The How & Why

There comes a day in every entrepreneur's life when it’s time to delegate tasks, expand the team and hire.

I thought back to my experiences working for others. I thought about what I liked and what I didn’t like. I had a lot of bad bosses over the years.

I thought about how I wanted to show up, how I wanted to be a leader. I felt an instinctual responsibility to create a safe environment and provide consistent hours. I wanted her to feel important and a part of a team. I wanted her to trust me, I wanted to trust her.

Becca was just 18 when we started working together. We worked together for 3 years.

I wasn’t a perfect leader, I made mistakes. But I cared about Becca as a human and I wanted her to succeed.

I have read several books on work culture and leadership since then. Simon Sinek has been someone I have referenced over and over.

He champions an infinite mind set when it come to business with emphasis on these 5 principals.

Just Cause: Our WHY
Trusting Teams: creating a safe environment where people want to show up.
Worthy Rivals: inspires us to take on an attitude of improvement and focus our attention on process.

Existential Flexibility: the ability to change set systems and adapt procedure. “We’ve always done it this way” does not mean it’s the best way.
Courage to Lead: leaders inspire others to do good work.

I’ve read 3 of his 5 books:
Start with Why
Leaders eat last
The infinite game

All 3 books have redefined what leadership and business can look like. All 3 books bring lay the ground work for culture in any organization.
